The EnviroGrant Scheme is a community fund to which not-for-profit community groups based in Birmingham can apply. Projects which focus on improving the local environment or which have a green or community focus, will be prioritised. Nargis Osman-Ghani who is Community Project Co-ordinator at Starbank School, recently received funding from the scheme.
Speaking about the grant, Nargis said:
“This funding has helped us to build a “water wall” at school which has enabled the children to learn about the properties of water. The pupils have experimented with the variety of ways in which water moves and how it has the capacity to make other things move. Running water has a huge potential for raising questions, investigations, experimentation and problem solving. We are delighted to have received this funding and would encourage other groups to apply.”
Cat Slaytor, Midlands Communications Manager at Veolia said:
“We want this scheme to make a real difference to groups who need additional funding. For example it could be a local allotment group that needs £500 for a new lawn mower or a parent and toddler group which needs £250 to brighten up their play area. We would encourage all groups to apply, no matter how small the request is."
