New Free Education Resource Available To Schools Throughout The City

The free activity book teaches pupils aged  9-10 about the importance of their carbon footprint. Toby Terlet, General Manager at Veolia Birmingham, said “We are thrilled to be able to develop this fantastic project entitled ‘A Giant Change – reducing your carbon footprint’. Here at Veolia we are dedicated to educating the next generation on the importance of looking after our environment as well as making use of the resources we all throw away.
 
“We are thrilled to have joined forces with SKIPS Educational Publications and sponsor every 10 year old in the city to have a free Energy, Water and Waste homework book. The inspiration behind the book is to engage parents and change behaviour in the homes of children whose schools are becoming more sustainable.”
 
Alongside the activity book, SKIPS are hosting a free series of one off workshops for teachers from schools across the city to learn more about sustainability and structuring lessons around the topic.
 
Debbie Cox from Mere Green Primary School in Four Oaks said, “A colleague and I recently attended one of the projects Taster Days and were thoroughly surprised at how interesting it was. Not only was it a great chance to network with other schools and discuss ideas within the school setting, but it was great discussing global issues too. It opened our eyes to the problems in the wider world and helped us bring those ideas into a class setting.
 
“It was enjoyable and relaxing and everyone seemed so enthusiastic about their roles. The tour around the Veolia site gave us a greater understanding of how well recycling works when it is done efficiently. It was beneficial to have input from all those involved in order to see how these organisations work together.
 
“We would thoroughly recommend the SKIPS course to other schools and are looking forward to working the company throughout the coming academic year.”
