Small community grants which make a difference – Veolia launches new funding scheme

The EnviroGrant Scheme is a community fund to which not-for-profit community groups based in Birmingham can apply for grants of up to £1,000 for projects which improve their local environment. Projects with an environmental/green focus are prioritised, however all applications are considered on their individual merit.

Speaking at the launch, Mark Heesom, General Manager for Veolia in Birmingham said: “We want this scheme to make a real difference to groups who need additional funding. For example it could be a local allotment group that needs £500 for a new lawn mower or a parent and toddler group which needs £250 to brighten up their play area. We would encourage all groups to apply, no matter how small the request is.”

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham was also at the launch and encouraged local groups to apply for funding of their projects.

Notes for editors:

Groups who would like to apply for funding can download a leaflet about the scheme together with an application form by visiting the website www.veolia.co.uk/birmingham. Alternatively they can phone 0121 680 2000 to request an application.

If the project requires considerable financial assistance (i.e. more than £1,000), groups should visit the Veolia Environmental Trust website at www.veoliatrust.org.uk to find out if it qualifies for funding under the Landfill Communities Fund.
